Accommodation Tax in Hannover

Dear Guests,

As of January 1, 2024, the city of Hannover has introduced an accommodation tax.

This tax applies to all overnight stays within the city limits of Hannover, regardless of whether the stay is for tourism, private or business purposes. Children and young people up to the age of 18 are exempt from the tax.

The tax is charged in addition to the gross overnight price and is shown separately on the invoice.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • €0.50 per person and night for a gross overnight price of up to €10
  • €1.50 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €10 up to €25
  • €3.00 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €25 up to €50
  • €4.00 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €50 up to €100
  • €5.00 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €100 up to €150
  • €6.00 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €150 up to €200
  • €7.00 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €200 up to €250
  • €8.00 per person and night for a gross overnight price of over €250 up to €300

For each additional €50 gross fee, the tax increases by €1.00

Example 1:

1 guest books accommodation for 6 nights and pays €125 per night. The gross price for 6 nights is €750 incl. 7% VAT. The accommodation tax is €5 per night. Total accommodation tax: €5 x 6 nights = €30. Final price incl. accommodation tax: (€750 + €30) = €780.

Example 2:

3 guests book accommodation for 6 nights and pays €240 per night. The gross price for 6 nights is €1440 incl. 7% VAT. The price per person per night is (€240 / 3 persons) = €80. The accommodation tax is €4 per person and night. Total accommodation tax: €4 x 3 persons x 6 nights = €72. Final price incl. accommodation tax: (€1440 + €72) = €1512

Accommodation Tax in Laatzen

As of July 1, 2024, the city of Laatzen will also introduce an accommodation tax.

This tax will be 5% and will be levied on all overnight stays within the city limits of Laatzen, regardless of whether the stay is for tourism, private or business purposes.

The tax will be charged in addition to the gross overnight price and shown separately on the invoice.
